A Famous Argument Against Free Will Has Been Debunked

The article A Famous Argument Against Free Will Has Been Debunked by Bahar Gholipour goes deep into the idea of whether or not humans have control over their own actions had been fought over for centuries. The idea in question called Bereitschaftspotential  is the pick up of waves that arise for about a second that scientists believe indicate that the brain shows signs of a decision before a person acts. This idea has led scientists to question whether “humans are not the authors of their actions.”  In 1964 German scientists wanted to test this idea which allowed them to prove the fact the Bereitschaftspotential exists. This discovery became very controversial because it ideally means that free will might be dead. This  discovery opened doors for the scientist after them that wanted to test Bereitschaftspotential in a different way. Till this day  supporting evidence still seems to be going through ongoing research. As a scientist myself, this article helped me to see that scientists build up each other’s study experiments  to grow their knowledge and understanding and to further develop and support findings. This research article  has also helped me learn that many scientific findings can open up a whole other level of research that builds on the initial purpose of many initial research objectives.
